JANUARY 8, 2021 SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT: EVEN JUSTICE THOMAS'S WIFE IS NOT IMMUNE – FROM BIZPACREVIEW.COM: The far-left cancel culture is in full gear following the protest Wednesday at the U.S. Capital that got out of hand, even targeting Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, who is no stranger to “high tech lynchings.” Not that Thomas did anything. No, it’s because his wife allegedly expressed support for the tens of thousands of Trump supporters who came to DC to peacefully protest the results of an election that they believe to be illegitimate — never mind that Ginni Thomas tweeted her presumed remarks well before a smaller faction of protesters stormed the U.S. Capitol. Mark Joseph Stern, a “staff writer” at Slate, tweeted screenshots of what appear to be tweets from Mrs. Thomas — her account is now private. Our liberal hero breathlessly reported: “On the morning of Jan. 6, Ginni Thomas — wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas — endorsed the protest demanding that Congress overturn the election, then sent her “LOVE” to the demonstrators, who violently overtook the Capitol several hours later. She has not posted since.” All he needs is the swastika on his arm. JUST A VISITOR TO THE CAPITOL – FROM FOX: An anti-Trump activist who once said he wanted to "rip" the president out of office entered the Capitol Building Wednesday alongside a mob of pro-Trump protesters, but he said he was just there to "document" it. "There’s this narrative going around right now that Antifa was the people there causing the riots, causing the tension, they were the only people breaking into the Capitol, and I wanted to be able to tell a part of history and show that that was anything but the case," John Sullivan, the founder of Utah-based Insurgence USA, told Fox News Thursday. Insurgence USA describes itself as "the revolution." It began protesting racial injustice in policing last year following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody. In August 2020 remarks to a small crowd at a Washington, D.C., intersection, Sullivan pointed to the nearby White House and unleashed a torrent of violent rhetoric. "We ... about to burn this s--- down," he said. "We gotta ... rip Trump right out of that office right there," he continued, adding, "We ain't about ... waiting until the next election." He then led the crowd in a chant of, "It's time for revolution." Hmm. Is he saying that he was just passing by? I wonder how many other left-wing tourists there were in Wednesday's crowd. MADNESS – AT 5:15 P.M. ET: As usual, the left is going too far. They are taking Wednesday's sad events and making them into the greatest catastrophe in human history. World War II? Nothing compared to the break-in at the Capitol. Now, with only 12 days remaining in Trump's term, the leftist circus clowns want him removed from office. No kidding. They want that symbol. They want that coonskin on the wall. Who cares what happens to the country? Who cares that a last-minute impeachment will take the wind out of Biden's inauguration and will be the ultimate divisive act? Who cares about Biden? Isn't it really Kami that the woke left wants? Get this, from Fox:
COMMENT: Weak Joe Biden says he won't interfere with the impeachment process, even though he certainly understands that it will undermine his inauguration. Real leadership there. So the Dems want to remove a president only days before his term expires. Very impressive thinking. The whole world is watching. January 8, 2021 Permalink
JANUARY 7, 2021 SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT: NIKKI TAKES HER STAND – FROM THE NEW YORK POST: Former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley called President Trump “very disappointing” since his November election loss — and said he’ll be “judged harshly by history.” But Haley, speaking at a Republican National Committee dinner in Florida Thursday, softened her remarks by adding that the outgoing commander-in-chief also made some “truly extraordinary gains” while in the White House. “President Trump has not always chosen the right words,” Haley said, according to Fox News. “He was wrong with his words in Charlottesville, and I told him so at the time,” she said. “He was badly wrong with his words yesterday,” when Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol. “And it wasn’t just his words,” Haley said. “His actions since Election Day will be judged harshly by history.” Haley, a former South Carolina governor, was appointed UN ambassador in 2017, and remained in the post until two years ago. This is important. Nikki Haley is one of the most popular figures in the Republican Party and a prominent candidate for the national ticket in 2024. The stand she's taking has clearly been thought out and is well stated. There will be a distancing from Trump. Question: Will high-ranking members of the GOP ask Trump not to run in 2024, and ask him to withdraw early so other candidates are not held back. What answer will he give? WISDOM – FROM NRO: Whenever Democrats manage to pick the “electoral locks” and “find themselves in control of the White House,” snarks Kyle Smith at National Review, they claim “the People have spoken” and want “Profound and Lasting Change!” Yet voters in November, as in past elections, simply chose the guy who wasn’t the incumbent. All Joe Biden needed to win was to say, “I’m not Trump.” Democrats “will be shoving themselves into a buzzsaw” if they interpret November’s results — which had Biden winning only by small margins in a few key states and left Congress closely split — as “a decisive mandate for sweeping change.” Or even as “a whispered suggestion of substantial change.” Americans “don’t want anything more complicated than to turn the page on the Trump era.” EMBARRASSING – AT 11:45 P.M. ET: Michelle Obama, who once said that the only time she was proud of her country was when her husband ran for president, is now gifting us with more of her accumulated wisdom. From USA TODAY:
COMMENT: That is the way of the authoritarian, and it's the direction the American left wants us to go. Censorship and suppression. Michelle Obama and her husband, in the middle of a pandemic that has brought severe suffering to millions of Americans, moved into a $15-million mansion in Massachusetts, to supplement their $8-million mansion in Washington. They have monetized the American presidency as no president and first lady ever have. You'd think they'd be concerned about appearances, but apparently not. The former first lady might consider her words and deeds more carefully in the future, and perhaps also contemplate the virtue of silence. January 7, 2021 Permalink
JUST TO BE SURE YOU KNEW – AT 9:30 P.M. ET: The laughingly called "news" networks have been spending all their time yapping about yesterday's break-in at the Capitol. But, believe it or not, other things are happening. Joe Biden has named his attorney general and other Justice Department officers. From Fox:
COMMENT: If we have to have a liberal at Justice, at least Garland is a sane one. He has a solid reputation, and is not a crackpot. There is nothing in his career to suggest softness toward criminals. On balance, as good an appointment as we were likely to get. January 7, 2021 Permalink

SIZZLING SITES Power Line "The left needs two things to survive. It needs mediocrity, and it needs dependence. It nurtures mediocrity in the public schools and the universities. It nurtures dependence through its empire of government programs. A nation that embraces mediocrity and dependence betrays itself, and can only fade away, wondering all the time what might have been." - Urgent Agenda
